Hello again, I wanted to show you some more buttons I have been working on today - I really have the Aussie theme on a roll right now.
Aussie flag cut from redgum timber
I re-cut the gumleaves in Aussie Redgum
Obviously Australia, also in redgum timber
And these are my Aussie animals, with a new smily Echidna all cut in Redgum timber
I have started a new category in my buttons section especially for Aussie buttons
For Simone and other Non-Aussies, Australia Day is on January 26, and is the anniversary of the "settlement of Australia" when Captain Arthur Phillip landed at Sydney Cove with the First Fleet. (thanks for the history lesson Mum!) Of course we know that Australia didn't need 'settling', as the native people have settled here for quite a long time before that! So perhaps rather than celebrating the landing of Europeans, we celebrate our beautiful country, it's wonderful and diverse culture, the breathtaking beauty of our land and the true freedom we feel in living here.
I know that another country likes to say they live in the luckiest country on earth (hmmm any guesses who) but I just can't believe it. In Australia, a child gone missing makes national news, as do silly puppies who get lost down drains. I can't say I have ever heard of a child's accidental death in a drive-by shooting, and we have THE BEST health system in the world where absolutely everyone can get free hospital treatment when needed. I live in a city with a population of over 25000 people, yet we can still leave our kids bikes on the lawn and they are still there tomorrow. Life in Australia is GOOD! We are so very fortunate to live here.
Enough of my ravings,
